Diagnosis and Treatment of Menstrual Disorders, Dysmenorrhea, and Endometriosis

Many women experience menstrual cycle disorders, which can include irregularities in menstruation, excessively heavy or light periods, or severe menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea). While some of these symptoms may be considered “normal,” it’s important to consult a gynecologist to rule out underlying conditions such as endometriosis or other pathologies.

Dysmenorrhea, or intense menstrual pain, can significantly interfere with a woman’s daily quality of life. In some cases, it may be a symptom of more serious conditions, such as endometriosis—a disease in which tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus grows outside of it, causing chronic pain, inflammation, and, in some cases, infertility.

The treatment for menstrual disorders can vary depending on the diagnosis. To manage menstrual pain, anti-inflammatory medications or hormonal contraceptives may be prescribed, which often help regulate the cycle and reduce pain. For endometriosis, in addition to pharmacological treatments, there are minimally invasive surgical options that remove areas of endometrial tissue, alleviating pain and improving fertility.
